I had known since the night of the 2017 NEUTRiNOS holiday spectacular that I would need a new outlet for music in 2018, but didn't give it much thought, figuring I could use some time off from being stressed about music because, at that point, everything was stressing me out.
I guess I had known how I wanted my next band to sound since long before the last band ended, but I had no idea where I would start. One night I got motivated to try writing a song on bass and one thing led to another and before I knew it, I had this instrumental done in like a half hour.
As you might be able to tell, this track was originally in 120BPM. I hadn't started really fooling around with tempo variations for tonal quality manipulation just yet, so everything here is as it was recorded. It wasn't until later while I was recording vocals that I realized that I felt more secure at a faster BPM. I tried 150BPM because it was a nice, round number (and my favorite CC in Mario Kart 64), and I loved how it made the existing bassline sound like it was puckered up.
For a few weeks, it just existed as an instrumental that I passed around to friends I traded demos with, some of them not believing it was me for whatever reason. I eventually dug through some unused NEUTRiNOS lyrics and found the basis of the verses, (which, believe it or not, sounded way more like a Ritchie Cordell or Kasenetz-Katz track in that form) and would listen (and try to sing along) to the instrumental on repeat in the car until I figured out a chorus.
