When I was first planning out the eight releases for 2018, this was among the first songs I thought of and for a little while, this was among the clearest of the envisioned covers. I thought it did a pretty good job of showing where I was coming from with this project without being so on the nose like covering "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" or "I Think We're Alone Now." I wanted to find perfect pop where it wasn't intended or where someone doesn't think to look and I think a lot of the '90s has a lot of that because Nirvana (and then Green Day) really knocked the punk world off balance.
The instrumental had been started during a bout of writer's block during the creation of '5 Second Rule' and set aside when creativity returned.
This was originally slated to appear on '6th Sense' to play up the superhuman angle, as I had initially planned to release the EP during #SMARTS2018, which had the theme of "Find Your Superpower." Then I got really busy and the EP got delayed a few times and when I realized I would, in fact, be able to release an EP on my anniversary with Icky Vicky, for whatever reason, at the last minute, I decided to record something different (probably because I thought she'd prefer new wave to twee pop), which I kind of regret because I think the message of this song better suits an EP dedicated to your super cool girlfriend.
